What do you recommend as incentives for administration staff apart from a cash bonus?

Liz Huband, Liberty International Underwriters, Sydney. In terms of incentives I favour giving staff time I suggest vouchers for short-break travel and accommodation, and vouchers for Red Balloon Days (the recipient can choose their own special experience).

Hayley Attard, Haileybury, Melbourne. I would recommend signifi cant personal development opportunities as an incentive. Many administrative staff don’t have actual KPIs to meet it, so it can be hard to gauge their performance. It is rare that PAs in particular get time away from the desk, therefore the chance to attend a two- or

three-day conference to improve skills, without interruption, would be most appealing. I also see value in off ering tailored experiences as an incentive, such as dining experiences or concert tickets. A personal touch is always well received as it shows the organisation appreciates you as an individual.

Jo Butler, St Vincent’s Health & Aged Care, Brisbane. I fi nd that our administrative staff members tend to appreciate time off or vouchers to dinner, movies or shopping. Cash comes and goes, but experiences provide an opportunity to create a memory – much more rewarding.

Ruth Kamina, Atlassian, Sydney. I recommend weekend getaways, fl ights and day-spa vouchers.

Jennie Pryor, Colonial First State, Sydney. Recognition is always helpful! If people are being thanked and recognised for their eff orts, they are incentivised to keep striving and delivering at a high level. The other great option to reward administration staff is further training. Paying for your

PA or team assistant to further their skills and learn new ones is always appreciated.

Pam Illingworth, The Salvation Army, Sydney. In terms of incentives I favour giving staff time off , holidays (either accommodation or fl ights), technology gifts (such as iPads), professional development courses, seminars or conferences or even an evening out with their partner. Movie

tickets are popular, and in the past we have off ered an evening with the boss – a small group of employees dine out with the boss, with free discussion encouraged.
