With constant pressures on time and budgets, more and more out-of-offi ce online printing solutions are appearing, a few of which put the price of in-house copying, printing and binding to shame. Considering the eff ort and cost of


maintaining your own “print shop” in the offi ce, using local quick printers or those that accept content online can result in more effi ciency and superior savings. Depending on the size of your job, the service required and the quality of the fi nish, a number of options are emerging. Offi ceworks has moved into the


commercial print and online ordering service to rattle the competition. Dubbed the “print hub” and with a strategy of guaranteeing the lowest prices, the company’s redesigned online portal can be used for placing orders for documents, business cards, banners and photos. It is possible to submit print jobs without having to visit the store. This is a service that has been limited up until now, but by partnering with an established trade printer, Offi ceworks can off er more comprehensive multi-run jobs. Most orders are delivered between two and seven days. And the company’s 140- plus stores around Australia can also print


orders on-site. Some work is pushed on to the hub and specialty requests such as canvas prints, photobooks and off set runs are outsourced to other trade printers. Not to be outdone, Offi ceMax has


acquired Complete Print Solutions and Foxprint Solutions, estimated to be worth $7 billion. While still servicing the customers of the acquired companies that now trade under the Offi ceMax banner, dedicated account managers handle print requests. Secure uploading of material is off ered, and the service will be enhanced over the coming months. All of this, of course, puts pressure on


franchised print businesses such as Kwik Kopy, which has a philosophy of superior personal service while maintaining an emphasis on extra services such as graphic design, image and photo sourcing, and binding while also helping with direct mail campaigns, online web design, email marketing and eCommerce payment gateways. For managing print and design


requirements, Kwik Kopy’s Zenith Web2Print feature off ers companies the ability to set-up a portal where managers can access preset print material relevant to their department. This can be


customised, such as for business cards for a new staff member. Tailored toward smaller and “micro”


businesses, Vistaprint off ers a broad range of printing and promotional needs, mostly online, while using three worldwide printing hubs (one is in Australia).


All of this, of course, puts pressure on the


franchised print businesses Based in The Netherlands, the business


was conceived in Paris and runs its customer call centre in Jamaica. The key to its approach is its technology, which allows the company to group small but similar orders into larger groups, producing large numbers of orders in short runs. This makes the service ideal for smaller businesses and individuals wanting low volumes without having to meet signifi cant set-up costs or minimum order numbers. Vistaprint’s “graphic design” services


are off ered as online templates, but fully completed artwork can be uploaded if preferred.
