Clicks for conferences WHERE Geelong and the Great Ocean Road have plenty to
offer for business events and incentives, and a new website makes it easy for organisers.
Geelong offers great conference spaces, incentive and touring options, team-building opportunities and spectacular scenery. With beaches, rainforest, shipwrecks, wildlife and the iconic Twelve Apostles, the Great Ocean Road is ranked among the top 20 journeys of a lifetime by Conde-Naste Traveller and is listed by Frommers as one of the top 10 road trips. For groups, Geelong is within an
hour’s drive of the Melbourne CBD or Tullamarine Airport, and just 20 minutes from Avalon Airport. For EAs or PAs planning an event, finding the right venue or service is a click or three away on the new Business Events Geelong website. Business Events Geelong (a division of Geelong Otway Tourism) is the convention bureau for the Geelong and Great Ocean Road region, tasked with helping organisers find conference or event venues, unique spaces, quality accommodation, incentives and touring options, as well as offering professional support services. It represents more than 1000 suppliers covering all aspects of business events. “For BE Geelong, regional doesn’t mean
small,” says bureau manager Terry Hickey. “The region can, and does, host large

com.au website means that even a novice meeting and conference planner or incentive buyer can build a proposal request with a minimum number of keystrokes. The site also incorporates the latest responsive web technology that intuitively configures the screen to suit the device on which it is being viewed. Hickey says that as well as drawing on user and member feedback, the BE Geelong team reviewed websites from around the world to ensure the site reflects the needs of the user. “It really is a one-stop regional shop.”
HIGH PROFILE Geelong, with some of Victoria’s roomiest regional conference spaces, is regarded as a world leader in knowledge and innovation, education and research, manufacturing and services. The university town is known for innovative research in biosciences, medicine and advanced materials. Beyond the town is the Surf Coast, skirted by the Great Ocean Road that
takes in Torquay, the famous Bells Beach surfing spot and Lorne. Both Torquay and Lorne have resort-style conference venues that can conference and accommodate more than 500 delegates.
MORE TO COME At No. 1 Great Ocean Road, Torquay Golf Club is undergoing an extensive redevelopment which will see the RACV Torquay Resort open this year. A 75-minute drive from Melbourne,
the resort will have 92 accommodation rooms and suites, restaurants, bars, fitness centre, 18-hole golf course and conference venues – six syndicate rooms, two meeting spaces and two other rooms that can be combined.
SEE FOR YOURSELF Two Melbourne PAs are wanted to explore Geelong and the Great Ocean Road as guests of Business Events Geelong. To apply, send your contact details via your work email to ReaderEvents@ExecutivePA.
