8. Show what you have achieved. Highlight your career success. Does your profi le show how you advanced and gained more responsibility in your career?


9. Be an industry volunteer. If you are or have been a volunteer, name the organisation and outline your responsibilities. Volunteering shows leadership and the ability to adapt to diff erent environments.


10. Review and be neutral. Review your profi le multiple times. Ask yourself if your profi le would intrigue employment agencies. Have a mentor or career adviser also review your profi le. E

I don’t really use LinkedIn as a PA, but use it extensively


for my company. The tips still apply across the board, though: when networking and you are handed a business card, ask if they are on LinkedIn, and add them immediately; always ensure your current role information is up to date; only follow forums that relate to your role – network within the forums/groups once accepted; only add people you know – think of LinkedIn as your electronic rolodex; and use LinkedIn for getting better deals with suppliers in exchange for regular positive comments on their page.
