Program Ideas and Instructors Wanted!


Do you have an idea for a new program or family event? Do you have a special talent that you would like to share with others? Are you willing to lead an existing program? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, require additional information, or would like to book special programs, please contact the Museum.


Docents Wanted


The Museum is actively seeking new docents to join its crew! Become an integral component in preserving history’s future! Docents lead group tours through the Museum. The hours are flexible and training is provided. A willingness to help keep history alive is the only requirement. Please contact the Museum for more information.


Summer Exhibits May - June 2013


In collaboration with the Downers Grove Artists Guild the Museum will host an art exhibition in the Museum Annex Building themed Creating Colors.


July - December 2013 The History of Downers Grove from A - Z


The Downers Grove A to Z taps into the Spirit of Downers Grover letter by letter – “A” for Armed Forces, “Z” for Zephyr, and every letter in between. Discover the history of Downers Grove people, places, and events in this entertaining exhibit.


Birthday Parties


Have a Historic Birthday at the Museum! Celebrate your birthday with historic games and fun before opening your presents and enjoying your cake in the Museum’s program room or outside in Wandschneider Park. Programs are customized for your child’s interests and age. Kids love the hands-on programs and activities on their big day. Call the Museum to book your birthday party today!


Each 2-hour birthday party at the Museum includes:


• 45- to 60-minute historic game program led by Museum Staff • Use of Museum’s program room or outside area in Wandschneider Park • Use of dishes • Time for opening gifts and eating cake


Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance. Participants provide their own refreshments.


Fees: $90/party (max. 10 children) $5 each additional child (up to 10 total)

Let the Museum bring history to you! Learn about genealogy, preserving your family heirlooms and the Museum profession. Explore your community’s history and hone your inner historian while enjoying one of our entertaining and educational programs. Programs can be tailored to your group’s interests and age level and includes a hands-on component.


Scout & Youth Group Programs - Embark Upon an Unforgettable Historical Adventure!


The Museum offers a variety of hands-on, educational programs for scouts and organized youth groups. Sharpen your thinking skills and explore your community’s past with a fun group activity. Topics include maps of Downers Grove, historic architecture, cemetery walks and Victorian manners and games. Programs can be tailored for your group’s age level and specific interests. Programs may fulfill some Scout Badge requirements.


Summer Camps


Experience American History throughout your summer! Choose one or more museum camps to satisfy your historical interests. Create your own schedule—daily and weekly fees are available for most camps. Sign up for three weekly history camps and receive a complimentary historic memento. Please refer to the Summer Camp Guide at dgparks.org for more information. Registration is required at Lincoln Center, the Recreation Center or online at dgparks.org.
