Grand Trunk hand pump car
This century-old design is typical for the period/ Julian Cavalier
This photograph shows a hand pump car similar to the one featured in the draw- ings; it is being used on the Canadian Na- tional Railway. What is interesting about this hand car is the two different types of wheels, a feature that could also be incor- porated in a hand car model. The CNR photo is not dated but is believed to have been taken in the early 1940’s. The men on the hand car are not identified.

he four-wheeled hand pump car shown in these drawings was standard for the Grand Trunk
Railway System and based on original drawings dated for April, 1908. The de- sign is probably typical for other rail- roads as well for the period.
