HOW TO... sell Turks & Caicos

Strung like glittering jewels across a cobalt sea, the Turk & Caicos Islands are one of the least unspoilt hideaways in the Caribbean. The T&Cs, as they are sometimes called, are still a British territory and have yet to come to the attention of the mass market

...BUT that is what makes them so appealing to the wealthy set who fi nd peace and exclusivity in abundance amid the uncrowded beaches and luxurious hotels and villas. Only eight of the 40 islands are inhabited; the main hub being Providenciales – or Provo – and this is where most hotels and restaurants are located. Many are dotted around a 12-mile stretch of sand called Grace Bay – frequently voted as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. The capital is historic Cockburn

why sell?

The Turks & Caicos offer a

perfect antidote to escapists seeking seclusion far removed from the high-rise hotels and casino resorts in more developed destinations. Yet while the islands are big on charm, there is no question of visitors having to rough it as the T&Cs boast some of the Caribbean’s most upmarket properties. Direct fl ights mean that, unlike some other other Caribbean islands, the T&Cs are easier to reach due to a British Airways weekly Sunday service which stops at Nassau enroute. However, it is also possible to reach the islands via the US with fl ights from a number of cities including Miami, New York and Atlanta, making two-centre trips feasible too. Like other Caribbean islands, the

kicking off parties on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. There follows a year of events, the highlight of which is arguably the Turks and Caicos Conch Festival held each July to celebrate the islands’ delicacy, which is also its top export. Held over a weekend, the festival attracts tourists and locals who come to see beach-based activities that include, appropriately enough, a conch-blowing competition.

The unspoilt nature of the

islands, along with a smattering of chic places to stay, makes them a natural for couples looking for sand-between-the-toes romance. But the T&Cs’ beautiful beaches and mirror-like seas also make them ideal for families, many of whom opt for the Beaches all-inclusive resort. The islands’ rich marine life also attracts divers wanting to explore the nearby reef and whale-watchers keen to spot migrating humpbacks that traverse the Columbus Passage dividing the Turks from the Caicos between January and April.
