A trip to Australia is always much more than just another holiday – it’s a life-enhancing experience that really marks it out as a one of a kind, says Ben Lerwill

The word ‘iconic’ gets bandied about a lot in the travel industry, but in the case of Australia – with everything from its kangaroos and its opera house to its surf beaches and its deep-red outback – it’s the most fi tting adjective to sum up the appeal. At the base of the West MacDonnell Ranges, the park is both a tourism and conservation centre, and a major showcase for the plants, birds, animals and people of this central desert environment.
