Maternity Services Maternity services are provided in the Alexian Brothers Women & Children’s Hospital. Each year, more than 2,800 families welcome a new baby into their hearts and homes. We believe that childbirth is one of life’s most precious miracles. Our facilities, staff and programs provide the education and emotional support needed to make the birth of a baby truly memorable. Classes for expectant parents and their families provide the skills they need to feel confident in caring for their newborn and themselves. Spacious birthing suites where labor, delivery and recovery take place in a warm,

help you succeed in breastfeeding your baby if you choose.

Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Located in the Alexian Brothers Women & Children’s Hospital, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at St. Alexius Medical Center is a state designated Level III facility that combines advanced technology and treatments with expert care for critically ill babies. Te NICU is under the direction of a board-certified neonatologist and staffed by registered nurses and respiratory therapists who have special training. Te neonatologists are not employees or agents of the hospital and will bill separately for their services.


Neurology Neurodiagnostic testing is available to perform Electromylograms (EMGs), EEGs and transcranial Doppler studies. Tese may be performed and are interpreted by a staff neurologists. Te neurologist is not an


employee or agent of the hospital and will bill separately for their service.


Cancer Care Patients can receive chemotherapy either as an inpatient or as an outpatient at St. Alexius Medical Center. All chemotherapy is administered by nurses who have had additional education in the care of patients with cancer. Radiation therapy services are available on campus. An Oncology Nurse Specialist is available at extension 2913 for patient and family questions and concerns related to cancer.


Pediatric Services Te St. Alexius Medical Center pediatric unit at the Alexian Brothers Women & Children’s Hospital is staffed by nurses who are PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified and a group of more than 30 pediatric sub-specialists are on the medical/dental staff to provide specialized care. Te goal is to provide family-centered care and to make the hospital experience a positive one for your child. An in-house pediatrician is available in


the hospital 24 hours a day to work with your pediatrician to provide the best care possible. Te in-house pediatrician is not an employee or agent of the hospital and will bill separately for services. A child life specialist provides therapeutic


and diversional activities for your child in the playroom as well as at the bedside. While you are encouraged to spend the


night with your child, we ask that only one parent stay due to space limitations. Siblings may visit between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. We request that you fill out a “Sibling Visit” sheet at the nurses’ station.


Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Te Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides comprehensive care for children from newborns through 21 years of age with a variety of diagnoses. Te PICU is staffed with specially trained nurses
