Telephone Telephones are provided in all patient rooms. Patients may receive calls between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Callers can reach you by dialing 847-843-2000 + 1 (for bed 1) or 2 (for bed 2) + your room number. To place a local call (847, 708, 630, 224, 312, 773 and 815 area codes), dial 9 + 1 + the 10-digit phone number. You may make outgoing calls at any time. Long-distance calls must be placed collect or charged to
your credit card. Please dial 0 and the hospital operator will assist you.
Interpreters/Hearing Impaired To ensure effective communication with our patients and their companions, we strive to speak in our patient’s preferred language. Language Identification Cards are available at hospital entry points and in patient care areas. Please let our staff know your preferred language and we will provide an interpreter. For patients who are deaf or hard of hearing, we pro-
vide appropriate auxiliary aids and services free of charge, such as sign language and oral interpreters, video remote interpreting services (VRI), TTYs, note takers, written materials, telephone handset amplifiers, assistive listening devices and systems, telephones compatible with hearing aids, televisions with caption capability or closed cap- tion decoders, and open and closed captioning of most hospital programs. Te WCH’s Labor/Delivery and Mother/Baby units
provide on-site Spanish speaking interpreters 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Please ask a nurse or other hospital personnel for assis-
tance, contact the hospital’s ADA administrator directly at 1-847-755-8731 (voice or TTY), or go to the closest nursing station or the St. Alexius Medical Center Reg- istration Desk located by the Bettendorf Pavilion Main Entrance for assistance.
Isolation Precautions While you are a patient at St. Alexius Medical Center, standard isolation precautions are utilized for your protection and that of our employees. These safety measures are taken anytime there is a possibility of an exposure to body fluids. Please do not let this frighten or upset you. In order to take precautions for certain conditions, the staff may use transmission-based precautions that require gown, masks, gloves or goggles while caring for you.
Hospital Safe If you cannot send your valuables home, please speak with your nurse about storing them in the hospital safe. The medical center cannot be responsible for any valuables left in your room.
Lost and Found Lost items should be turned in to our Security Department. Call the operator to have Security contacted. To inquire about items, contact Security at ext. 6684.
