SHOW PREVIEW: ABTT THEATRE SHOW The Truman show With a new layout, additional space and a bar area, the ABTT is preparing to put on another busy show
RETURNING TO The Old Truman Brewery in east London for the second year, the ABTT 2013 Theatre Show will be bigger than ever with expansion into three interconnected exhibition halls creating space for around 50% more stands. Theatre Show administrator Isobel Hatton says: “We’ve responded to positive feedback from exhibitors and visitors and expanded into the lower hall to provide more space for stands and to improve visitor circulation.” The new layout also provides visitors with a circular route around the whole Theatre Show. Hatton adds: “This new
layout has also enabled us to expand the café and add a bar area so we can offer more comfortable and relaxed areas for the all- important networking opportunities.” As well as showing the latest advances in lighting, sound, staging, projection and other technologies for the theatre industry, a key element in the expansion of the Association of British Theatre Technicians’ event this year will be extra seminar space to accommodate over 100 people at a time and more than three times as many seminars as last year. ABTT Seminars 2013 cover a range of subjects, including advice on theatre training and practice along with updates on recent regulations. The programme will run in two separate rooms within the exhibition over both days of the show. For established
practitioners there are sessions covering advice on stage managing shows overseas, professional insurance cover, how to prove technical competence to potential employers, and how to make the best use of social media to further their careers.

several additions to its Tecpro range. New loudspeaker station designs and a plug-and-play Tecpro to RTS system interface are among the products being given their UK debut. Three new loudspeaker stations will be on show including desktop, wall and rack mounting versions. They provide local monitoring of intercom circuits without the need for headphones, with contribution to the conversation made possible via the built-in microphone. Feedback cancellation circuitry helps avoid acoustic howl-round when speaker and mic are operating simultaneously. The SI921 Tecpro to RTS
The new PC Congo application will also be available for demonstration. Running on the user’s own desktop PC or laptop, it allows a user to run Congo software to control lighting rigs for shows or as a backup to other Congo family products. microphone range will also be on display, all designed for theatre applications, including the E-60MP low- profile earset mic, which is said to feature a unique hangar earpiece design, and the L-45 lavalier microphone. Robe will be highlighting its latest ROBIN DL range of LED luminaires designed for theatrical applications – the DLX Spot, DLF Fresnel and DLS. Robe’s DLS profile uses a high-powered RGBW LED module light source and adds a smooth, fast-framing shutter system in the optical path of the already proven DLX Spot format (which uses the same light source). Each of the four shutter blades can be individually controlled, positioned and angled, and the whole module can be rotated.

fixture is aimed at theatre, TV and all professional markets needing versatile fresnel style lights. It has a zoom starting at 5.5º and going to 60º with no distortion. A diffusion filter extends the zoom range yet further to 75º, making it suitable for covering cycs and other large surfaces. Also showing will be Robe’s
newest launches – the Pointe, MiniMe and CycFX – all from the ROBIN range – plus the LEDWash series along with the micro-sized LEDBeam 100.
