FEATURE: TILED DISPLAYS

‘I don’t think it practical to try and have some sort of standard mount for tiles’ Ralph Zaraiah, Mode-AL

more challenging. Here, the mounting system is key. “LCD displays are selected because of the need to minimise footprint – the display has to be as close to the wall as possible,” notes van Dijk. “Maintaining rear access or being able to move the entire display if access is required is quite simply impossible in many cases, so front access is a pretty vital requirement in many projects. Plus, of course, the specially designed bracket acts as a very nice frame around the entire installation, no matter what size – and it hides the cables.” “One of the attractions of flatpanel displays is that they can be installed with minimal space usage,” says Nico Kamffer, client services director at PSCo Technical Distribution, “but that creates its own challenges in terms of service access. “PSCo has resolved this challenge head on by introducing the custom- made SMS Multi Display Wall Pro to the UK market, a bracket designed for the requirements of today’s videowall project demands with deployment and serviceability in mind. It has a ‘pull and slide’ function

allowing independent manoeuvrability of each display to gain easy access to the back and sides for cable management and servicing. It also offers a modular approach to building and mounting a videowall, providing precise alignment edge-to-edge with minimal seam gap.” PSCo channel partner Intevi

recently installed three Samsung UE55A displays for Savoir beds based at Harrods, London. Using the SMS mounting brackets, they were installed in vertical configuration; three landscape screens on top of each other to make a large portrait image.

SmartMetals has also

devised a solution to the problem. “We have developed a push-to-open solution,” notes Ververda. “This is a mounting system with a gas spring: by pressing on both sides of the display, the display comes forward. The installer loosens four bolts on the display and he can take it out. The mounting arms stay attached to the aluminium profiles. He fits the new or replacement display with four bolts, hangs it in the system, attaches the cable and pushes it back. You don’t have to adjust or align anything afterwards as the mounting arms kept their settings. Because the mounting system has all the features necessary to align the displays perfectly, the tiled displays do not have to be interlocked for a perfect image, giving greater freedom for replacement or servicing.” “Our LCD display wall panels

are designed for total front service access, so you can pull individual displays out from the wall very easily with no need to disturb the other panels,” points out van Dijk. “The engineering team that designed the bracket is the same engineering team that designed our front access cubes.”

EASY ACCESS: NOT OPTIONAL

Not giving appropriate consideration to service access can have serious consequences, as SmartMetals’ Rachel Ververda points out. “At ISE, an installer told me about a videowall installation he’d been involved with,” she smiles. “After several hours’ work, the job was done. However, when they came to turn the power on, they realised that they hadn’t pressed the power button on the rear of one of the displays in the middle of the wall – and on another display, they’d forgotten to attach the cable. They had to completely dismantle the videowall – adding significantly to the install time.”

PEERLESS IS THE LOGICALIS CHOICE Visitors to

the recently opened Logicalis

UK office in the heart of the City of London are presented with the company’s key branding and business messaging on an impressive four-screen Samsung video wall, mounted on a Peerless videowall mount. As a leading global IT specialist with an audiovisual division, Logicalis was well placed to specify and install the videowall itself. Installed flush to the wall for a sleek finish, the videowall is positioned to ensure its corporate communications messaging is clearly visible to visitors and staff as they pass through reception. The Peerless DS-VW765-

LAND full-service mount was selected to expedite installation and servicing, with each panel able to be precisely aligned thanks to eight points of micro adjustment on each mount, enabling every screen to be fine-tuned in three planes (depth, height and pitch).

Screen-specific spacers facilitated speedy installation without measuring, and individual displays can be quickly serviced without needing to dismantle the entire wall. Displays and mount were supplied by distributor Medium UK.
