URBAN COLLECTIVE MILLIKEN

Milliken has launched the latest addition to its extensive range of carpets with Urban Collective, which makes the best use of the company’s proprietary Millitron pattern technology, whilst also using its new solution dyed nylon tufting capability. The range includes five designs; Fifty Percent Grey, OnBloc, Fringe, Citizen and Dissident, which have a highly textural and dimensional aesthetic incorporating the fractured elements and broken structure of a dilapidated cityscape.

Colour cues were taken from weathered concrete, stained with rust and graffiti as well as the charred and peeling paint of derelict buildings. The Urban Collective colour palette consists primarily of tinted and layered greys, with key constructivist accent colours of sharp yellow, teal green and cobalt blue. For Carol Appleton, Design Director at Milliken, the inspiration for the company’s latest collection came from an awareness of the changing urban environment and the changing definition of beauty. “We were very aware of the shapes, colours and textures associated with urban landscapes,” Carol commented. “It is this that shaped our thinking and allowed us to explore the urban landscape and its depictions in art and photography to develop the new range.”

VISIONS OF... DESSO

Desso’s innovative new line, ‘Visions of...’, is a unique, two-dimensional product that uses cutting edge production technology and powerful pattern design. The colour and flooring experience changes when viewed from different angles looking almost like a plain hard floor when seen across a larger area, but showing the pattern when up close.

This patented carpet tile product comes in a larger 100x100cm tile and is available in three different designs; Visions of Flowers, Visions of Lines and Visions of Shards. The pronounced patterns of Flowers, Lines and Shards are inspired by the use of patterns in art, fashion, architecture and interiors; used in subtle yet striking ways and these designs all offer a unique blend of patented technology and unparalleled design. Visions of Flowers, for example, offers a pronounced floral pattern which is incorporated into the carpet tile design. A surprisingly abstract pattern is what gives Visions of Shards its distinctive look, whereas the inspiration for Visions of Lines comes from linear elements in monumental architectural design. Desso has also received a ‘red dot* product design’ award for its ‘Visions of...’ carpet line.
