TOMORROW’S FLOORING

FOTOSFERA INTERFACE

Interface is striding ahead in its Mission Zero quest with the unveiling of its truly commercial carpet tile made from plant (or bio) based nylon; Fotosfera, which consists of yarn exclusive to Interface that is made from castor plant oil produced in rural communities.

Castor oil is produced from plants that are fast growing, therefore readily renewable and low-maintenance. Seventy percent of the world’s castor oil plants are grown in India in hot conditions where they require water as little as once in up to 25 days. Crucially, the plants are an important source of additional income for rural farmers, often fetching revenue over 10 times what it costs to start the crop. Nigel Stansfield, Chief Innovations Officer for Interface, commented: “Fotosfera has the good looks and high performance customers expect from our carpet tiles, but with 63% bio-based yarn content. It accelerates our Mission Zero aim to eradicate our use of virgin petro-chemical raw materials in our products by 2020 whilst providing sustainable business opportunities for rural farmers.”

Fotosfera comes in two designs, Structured and Micro, which are both available in eight colourways. The product also comes with the glue-less installation method, TacTiles, as standard.

FRAGMENT AMTICO

Fragment is a revolutionary new design aesthetic that has been created by the Amtico design team, and goes further than poured resin and sparkle. The range provides an exceptional look across a commercial colour palette that is both unique and useable.

The unique Fragment designs have been developed using natural materials including micas to give crunch that lifts traditional stone texture and has also been developed to enable colours to shift — providing architects, designers and specifiers with a greater range of design combinations. It features six unique designs, ranging from shimmering coppers and gold to inky black tones with silver flecks.

The innovative Fragment design is part of Amtico’s new Signature Collection, which is set for launch this month and features 188 products, 78 of which are new for 2013.
