André Rieu The classical music superstar shines as a series of new concerts waltzes on to Sky Arts HD
Sky Arts presents a host of sensational new concerts by Dutch violin maestro André Rieu as he and his very own Johann Strauss Orchestra entertain sell-out crowds across the world. The Waltz King burst onto the UK scene in 2010, shifting more than 400,000 copies of his first UK release, and is now one of the best-selling live acts in the world. To date, he has sold more than 32 million albums globally and has been awarded more than 330 platinum and 100 gold awards for his phenomenal success.
With his natural charisma, Rieu creates a celebratory atmosphere throughout each of his concerts on Sky Arts. In the opulent surroundings of Vienna, his fabulous show And the Waltz Goes On finds The Flying Dutchman performing a mix of Viennese waltzes,
songs and marches, punctuated by famous Viennese operettas and dances. And in a tribute to his very own ensemble, Live in Maastricht VI sees Rieu return to his home town with his Johann Strauss Orchestra and special guests the Platin Tenors, sopranos Mirusia Louwerse, Carmen Monarcha and Suzan Erens, 13-year-old trumpeter Melissa Venema and 100 children from the local music school to light up the city’s historic square.
From renowned Viennese operettas to film scores and from folk songs to marches, the shows are a dynamic mix of thrilling, romantic, festive and emotional melodies combined with fun surprises, beautiful solos and, of course, Rieu’s wonderful sense of humour.
