Chickens The Inbetweeners’ Simon Bird and Joe Thomas hatch a new comedy for Sky 1 HD
As the Great War rages, Britain’s men are fighting the good fight on foreign soil, but in one sleepy English village three exceptions remain. George (Thomas), a conscientious objector, army reject Cecil (Bird), and Bert (Jonny Sweet, When Boris Met Dave), an amoral philandering scaredy-cat, have been left behind with just judgemental women, mocking children and each other’s unwelcome friendship for company. Never mind ethics or excuses, to the neighbours this trio aren’t proper men, they’re chickens.

The local women peck away at their masculinity and the chaps are rendered defenceless by the mere act of still being in England. Although, with husbands and fathers all abroad, George, Cecil and Bert realise they’ve been handed an opportunity and make it their duty to keep morale high among the lonely ladies of the home front. Whether they’ll be successful chick-magnets remains to be seen, but since meeting at university Bird, Sweet and Thomas have scored critical acclaim for their sketch group and “hope this will be the comedy to end all comedies”.
