Got to Dance

JLS heart-throb Aston Merrygold joins the judging panel for Sky 1 HD’s entertainment extravaganza

Host Davina McCall returns to preside over the country’s most daring dance floor in Got to Dance’s fourth outing. Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Banjo are back on judging duty, this time joined by JLS’ back- flipping, shoe-shuffling Aston Merrygold. And the singer can’t wait to get stuck in, declaring that he’s, “buzzing to be part of the best dance show on TV”.

Movers and shakers of all varieties, from break dancers and body poppers to ballerinas, battle it out to win the title of Britain and Ireland’s best dance act and a career-launching £250,000. The boundary-breaking performances of past winners Prodijig, Chris & Wes and Akai have set the bar high, and only the most show- stopping of routines will impress the panel.

Kicking off with the UK-wide dance dome auditions in which the judges decide who to invite to the callbacks, the lucky guys and girls who make the cut will progress to the live semi-finals, where their fate is handed to the voters at home. And for fans who can’t get enough of the toe-tapping action, spin-off series Got to Dance: Auditions Uncut provides more hot-footed action every evening from Monday to Friday.

MY VIEW

Nicholas Steinberg, executive producer, Princess Productions

This series of Got to Dance promises to be bigger, better and more exciting than ever. We have a new judge, a bigger dome, incredible new camera technology and some of the most jaw-dropping dance acts we’ve ever seen. One new addition every- one’s excited about is our Matrix-style motion capture technology, which was also used during London 2012. There are now 97 cameras fixed around the stage in the dome, so when an act jumps, leaps, or does a killer trick, we can replay their every move in super slow motion. The judges were some of the first people to try it out and they couldn’t believe the results. The other big change this series is our new judge, Aston from JLS. Aston is a self-taught dancer – like so many of the incredible acts who come through our doors – so he will bring a fresh perspective to the panel. He joins Ashley and Kimberly as their job becomes harder than ever, given that the level of talent is the best it has ever been. So high, in fact, that in another big change this year, acts will now need three gold stars from the judges to make it through to the shortlist.
