Unforgettable

The crime drama’s sophomore outing stirs more memories as the action moves to Manhattan

Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace) stars as Carrie Wells, a police detective with an unrivalled skill: a rare condition that has rendered her memory flawless. Every place, conversation and moment of happiness and heartbreak is embedded in her mind forever. She is unable to forget anything, except for one key event: what happened the day her sister, Rachel, was murdered.

Criminal Minds The boffins of the BAU are back

Change is afoot at the Behavioural Analysis Unit. Following the departure of fan favourite Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), the BAU welcomes Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love) as expert linguist Alex Blake. Despite having previous dealings with the bureau, the newcomer proves to be something of an enigma to her colleagues.

There’s a shift on a personal front, too, as romance brews for a certain socially inept genius – yes, Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) has managed to get himself a girlfriend. And off screen, Gubler takes on a different role when he once again steps behind the camera to direct a special episode starring Golden Globe® winner Brad Dourif (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest).

Some things, though, remain reassuringly familiar, like the stream of unsavoury characters that the BAU will (hopefully) bring to justice. Executive producer Erica Messer teases that the overarching theme this season is “history and history repeating”, which could hint at some old faces returning for a second pop at outsmarting the team.

Season one saw Carrie reunited with ex-boyfriend and detective Al Burns (Dylan Walsh, Nip/Tuck), as she joined his NYPD precinct in Queens. Working together, they set about solving homicides across the city, as well as probing her sister’s murder. Now back for round two, Carrie’s quest for the truth continues as she and Al transfer to a Manhattan precinct. In new surroundings, could there be room for the pair to rekindle the romance that sparked in season one? “They love each other, but they’re explosive together,” says Montgomery. “She’s a rule breaker and rebellious, and he’s by the book and very solid. The whole thing is designed not to work but they can’t resist each other.”
