The slick superhero drama continues to hit its targets
Hopes were high for Arrow and it didn’t disappoint, teaming kick-ass action with muscular drama to chart the capers of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), a socialite turned vigilante taking down Starling City’s criminal community under the guise of the green-garbed Arrow. Life is made that much harder for our sharp-shooting protagonist thanks to murky goings-on in his own family, mainly via manipulative mother Moira (Susanna Thompson), and girl troubles – he still has feelings for former flame Laurel (Katie Cassidy).
Alongside appearances from familiar faces Colin Salmon (Strike Back) and John Barrowman (Torchwood), the transatlantic ratings winner kept fans happy with appearances from DC Comics favourites such as Deathstroke, China White and the Huntress. A cameo from the villainous Firefly has been confirmed, but the biggest is yet to come in the form of Laurel’s transformation into the Black Canary. Will the lawyer leather up by the season’s end? Exec producer Andrew Kreisberg teases: “There will be stuff coming up where you see glimpses of her as the hero and seeing the benefits of working outside the law”.
