Useful cPanel Scripts
by Joshua Brandt
So, you've decided to break out (or have already broken out) into shared hosting. Congratulations! It's quite a step and can be quite rewarding, if a bit stressful at times. Well, I'm here to hopefully take away some of that stress by showing you some scripts provided by cPanel to make your life easier.

/scripts/upcp
This one is great and is quite useful. If it ever seems like some basic cPanel files are missing, or are incomplete, simply run this script to update cPanel. If you run it with –force it will sync all the base cPanel files. Sometimes it will even fix issues you didn't know were being caused by a core cPanel file.

/scripts/whoowns
As you grow larger, you'll get more and more domains hosted under you. It's hard to keep track of all of them, so what do you do if you get a support request for a domain you don't recognize? Simple, run it through /scripts/whoowns! This script will tell you what cPanel user, if any, owns that domain. It's that simple.

/scripts/pkgacct
So you want a way to do your own backups, on demand and as simply as possible. Look no further than this script. It comes with a multitude of options (which can be found through our online documentation) to customize the backups for you. It's great for custom backup solutions, backing up accounts that are too large for normal backups or even if a user wants a backup on a day when they aren't usually scheduled.

/scripts/restorepkg
This lovely script is the counterpart to pkgacct. It will restore a cPanel backup for you, right then and there. This one is wonderful for restoring a bunch of accounts manually, for instance during a server migration, since you can easily put together a script to call it en masse. It will even let you assign a dedicated IP to the restored account and will even attempt to find a backup for you if you give it a username instead of a backup file's location.

/scripts/updateuserdomains
Oh no! Something happened on your server and now /etc/trueowners and /etc/userdomains don't have the right information anymore. Don't panic! We've got your back. If that happens, just run this script and it'll update those files using the information in /var/cpanel/users/ for you.
