VPS.net How easy was the cloud deployment?
Every option was available on the same screen with prices clearly listed. The requirement of having to copy and paste root passwords that were randomly generated would make it hard to provision and manage a large number of instances simultaneously.
How long did it take?
It took roughly 14 to 15 minutes to complete the provisioning of the new server, although they didn’t offer this information through their own interface and since they offered a pre- installed cPanel template, it was one of the fastest overall provisions.
Was the interface easy to use?
The interface was well organized and intuitive. Options were very well detailed and at no point was I unable to find an option
Was the installation of cPanel & WHM easy? This is tied for the easiest install of any of the reviewed companies. They offer a cPanel template that already has the software installed. It’s as simple as selecting the template at provisioning time.
How was the process for adding more CPU & RAM to the Cloud Instance? Had both a fast and slow upgrade process depending on if the instance required additional disk space to be provisioned or not. Went even further than other companies’ offerings by offering a feature to schedule a date and time to bring the server offline for re-provisioning automatically.
Was the process of adding additional IP addresses easy? Yes, it was done automatically through the interface at the cost of $1 per external IP. You can also add an additional internal IP.
Are there remote backup options and were you able to enable them? An automatic daily, weekly and monthly backup process is available as well as custom on-demand snapshots.
Mobile interface iOS and Android applications are available.
Summary
VPS.NET makes it easy to install and manage cPanel on their cloud offerings via pre- made templates ready for immediate deployment along with an excellent web and mobile interface. The only downside is the inability to select instance root passwords at deployment which, as I noted, could cause difficulty with attempting to provision multiple servers at the same time. They have a strong API and every option one should come to expect in the Cloud Hosting business located within their well organized interface. I believe that this service would be best for beginning administrators as a large majority of the process is automated.
