Q A
Could you briefly give us some details on the adoption / growth rate Attracta is seeing? Looking at your Partners page, it seems that many in the Web Hosting Community are jumping on board. Can you tell us something about that?
It’s been a wild ride since we first launched Attracta in August, 2009. We have over 1,000 hosting partners and tens of thousands of WHM reseller account partners. Since cPanel announced they were including Attracta, the number of new partners has definitely accelerated.
Aside from the core benefits of using Attracta SEO tools for a website such as making a site map, submitting it to search engines properly for you, and even having Attracta point out any issues that may exist, all from an easy to use SEO Tools area within the cPanel interface, can you tell us more about the basic features that Attracta provides at no fee? Why do we want to use Attracta?
Attracta’s free services include: a Google Blacklist Check to make sure the site is free of Malware, a Link Building Tool that gives sites keyword links from the high ranking Attracta customer directory, a social media tool that helps users create Facebook and Twitter accounts, and a Tool that makes it easy for site owners to see their site’s listings in over 100 search engines. In addition to the free SEO tools and tutorials, we also provide one-click installation of JavaScript apps in our new website App Store.
Can you tell us about some of the changes Attracta Integration makes to an account, such as what files it might edit, what files are added to the account and so on for this all to work properly?
On the account or site level, Attracta touches only one file, the robots.txt file, by appending the XML Sitemap directive at the end of the current robots.txt file. This lets all search engines know the location of the site’s Sitemap. If no robots.txt file exists, then Attracta creates one.
At the server level, Attracta installs an Apache module called Fast Include, allowing Attracta to dynamically insert JavaScript on the fly without touching any code on the site and without impacting the performance or security of the server.
A common question asked had to do with the account information of the cPanel users, and what was shared with Attracta after they signed up via the cPanel interface. Can you tell us what that information is?
Once a website owner opts in by clicking on the Attracta icons and agreeing to our TOS to enable our service, we gather 3 pieces of data from the cPanel user: account user e-mail address, domain(s) assigned to the account, and their host/ reseller’s ID. The host/reseller ID is a number assigned by Attracta to help track webhost and WHM reseller revshare.
With or without Attracta helping with site map creation and submissions, if your site has no real content, you should not expect any miracles of great search engine rankings if you’ve only got minimal, stale content. True or False?
False. A site not yet in the Google index will get indexed almost immediately IF it has some content. Every day hosts are getting support calls from customers saying “I bought a website from you last month and I can’t find it in Google. What are you going to do about it?” Attracta solves this problem instantly and for free for all cPanel hosts.
