It’s an impressive month for Electronic Arts, which finds itself back at the top of the publisher rankings thanks to the biggest game of the year so far – FIFA 13. The firm is comfortably ahead of its rivals, accounting for over half of the money generated by retail game sales last month.

It was also a great month for Take-Two. Borderlands 2 enjoyed the second biggest launch of the year and as a result the GTA-publisher is the No.2 games firm of the month. Other big risers include Activision (World of Warcraft), Codemasters (F1 2012) and NCsoft (Guild Wars 2).

September was filled with triple-A HD console blockbusters, such as FIFA 13, Borderlands 2, Sleeping Dogsand F1 2012. As a result, it was Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that made significant market share gains month-on-month, while Nintendo’s platforms lost share. 3DS, DS and Wii suffered from a lack of new releases.

PC also rose up the rankings last month. PC MMO titles including Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, The Sims 3: Supernaturalwere the key releases. Meanwhile, PS2 has taken 0.1 per cent of the software market. The 12-year-old machine actually received a new game last month in the form of EA’s FIFA 13.
