have to say that I think I’d get him, though. •••

What was it like to caddie for Coach Harbaugh at the AT&T National Pro-Am? I had never caddied before, and I had been asked to play but had a prior commitment that weekend that I couldn’t get out of, but Coach called me up and asked if I’d come caddie for a day. I caddied for him on the opening day at Spyglass. It was fun to be there with the crowds and all the amateurs playing. We were paired with Matt Cain and I’m a big Giants fan, so that was fun. ••• Was caddieing harder than you expected? Yes, much harder. It’s not just carrying the bag (laughs).

What effect did becom- ing a father in the 2011 off-season have on you? It’s just a huge change in life to become a dad. For me especially because I have a son, just being that example even though he’s not quite 1-year-old. It’s not so much what your parents say, it’s what you see them do that ends up staying with you. Kids are always watching, always taking things in. Living up to those stan- dards and trying to do the right thing, even when it’s hard. Those are the things I think about. •••

Who’s the better golfer, you or Coach Harbaugh? That’s a good question; I probably play more than him. We teamed up a couple days earlier at Pebble for the Giants/49ers shootout. He’s not a bad golfer, but he’s in the same boat as me. Between work and family he doesn’t get out that often. I’d

What was it like hav- ing an explosive player like Reggie Bush as a teammate in high school? It made life pretty easy. I handed the ball off an awful lot in high school. It made getting recruited pretty tough. We were so good and we were a heavy run offense, so I didn’t throw very much. It was tough to get recruited, actually, but he was fun to play with. He was doing those things at age 15—

Getting to play with Jack Nicklaus would be special, and it would be fun to play with Phil (Mickelson), and let’s go ahead and throw the president in there.

we all knew back then what a special player he was. I can remember in high school thinking that this guy’s going to win the Heisman one day and go on to great things. •••

Do you think the ’04 Utah team deserved a shot at the National Championship game? Yes, no question. That’s something I still feel to this day. We went undefeated, but there were other undefeated teams with us. One of the other teams, Auburn, also didn’t get to play for the national title. That usually doesn’t happen. It was just a really weird year. Looking back at that year, we were so good—there are still many guys off that team playing in the NFL, eight years removed. We could have played with anybody on
