The $36 NCGA membership portion of your fees will be waived. However, local club mem- bership is required, and in- dividual club fees will vary. If you do not have a local club which meets your needs, you are welcome to join the regional NCGA eClub that serves your area. Regardless of your club of choice, the NCGA looks forward to helping Northern California service members enjoy more golf in 2012 and beyond.
Remembering Gary Murata NCGA tournament scoreboards will never look quite the same after the passing of
long-time calligrapher Gary Murata. Murata, who passed away in early June, was very active in the Sac-
ramento-area golf community, in both civic and leadership roles. He was a past member of the Sacramento City Golf Council and served as president of the Sacramento GC. During his tenure as president, the Sacramento GC membership grew to more than 1,000 members. Terry Wilson, a friend of Murata’s for over 40 years as well as a fellow NCGA calligrapher, hired Murata at the Department of Mo-
tor Vehicles in the 1970s, and the work partnership blossomed into a lifelong friendship. Murata followed Wilson’s lead into the presidential post at the Sacramento GC and also into calligraphy. After a lot of hard work and preparation, Gary was tapped not only to do calligraphy at the NCGA, but also for the LPGA’s Sacramento events. He worked both the amateur and pro calligraphy boards with skill and precision, also working USGA qualifying tournaments in the area. “He was a loyal friend,” Wilson said with a glistening eye. “And not only that, he
was always looking out for his friends, helping us with anything and everything he could. We were good buddies, good friends.” He leaves behind wife Deborah, daughter Stefani, granddaughter Kayia, and step-
children Cydney Jaghory and Sam Skow, along with countless other cherished family members and friends.
