Bright future awaits four deserving students


College scholarships awarded N


ORTHEAST Oklahoma Electric Cooperative is helping ensure a brighter tomorrow for four area high school seniors by supporting their dreams of a life-enriching college education. The cooperative’s scholarship committee recently selected four 2012 graduates from its four-county service territory to receive $1,000 each toward tuition at a univer- sity of their choice. Selections were made from among many qualified applicants by the scholarship committee. Recipients of the 2012 NEOEC College Scholarship


include: Taylor Goedecke of Kansas, Chance Stephenson of Chelsea, Brooke Romine of Miami, and Whitney Chancellor of Salina.


Taylor Goedecke Taylor Goedecke represents the Delaware County area in accepting the 2012 NEOEC College Scholarship. Taylor will be attending Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Oklahoma, and plans on making pharmacy studies her primary focus.


The daughter of Barbara Goedecke, Taylor graduated Kansas High School with a 3.97 grade-point average, scored 23 on her ACT, and finished third among a class of 69 students. She was named three years to the Superintendent’s Honor Role and was also a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society, Beta Club, Business Profes- sionals of America, student council and FCCLA. Not only did Taylor excel academically, she is also a decorated athlete who enjoyed testing her skills against the competition in powerlifting, cheer, basketball and track/

cross country. Taylor is both a four-time state and national champion


Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) powerlifter with state and national record lifts to her credit. She also lettered four years in varsity cheer and was captain and choreographer of the school’s first-ever competition cheer team, an OSSAA state qualifier. Taylor has been cheering since the third grade and has compiled an impressive resume of accomplishments, including national championships, earning grand cham- pion distinction, and competing in USASF Worlds. When she isn’t competing, Taylor has been a fixture in the community. She volunteered numerous hours of her time reading to children at the public library and organiz- ing local Toys for Tots and holiday angel tree programs. Kansas High School educator Kristie Asher describes


Taylor as having an “ardent spirit and never-ending determination, both in and out of the classroom.” Says Asher: “Not only an athlete, Taylor is involved in


other organizations at the school that enable her to show- case her leadership abilities. She is a determined and industrious young lady who is pro-active in her education, ensuring she completes assignments to the best of her abilities.”
