The 49th

Annual Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour began June 15, 2012, with a “Get Acquainted Banquet” in Oklahoma City. The 68 young winners, representing 25 of the state’s rural electric systems, departed for the nation’s capitol the next morning. The students returned on June 22.

Youth Tour is a nationwide program conducted by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. The trip is intended to educate students about the role of electric co- ops in the national economy, to foster their appreciation for a democratic government, expose them to the sights and sounds of our nation’s heritage, and build their leadership skills so they may make a difference in their communities.

Carlee Henderson attends Latta High School, and is the daughter of Carlene and James Henderson.

Ashley Hughes attends Sulphur High School and is the daughter of Cathy Hughes.

Jimmy Russell attends Wapanucka High School, and is the daughter of Harry and Connie Russell. Her brother Charlie was a winner last year.
