Hope shines on at 2012 Relay for Life CEC team raises over $7,000 for cancer research

All proceeds for Relay for Life benefit the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life events take place across the country, with teams hosting bake sales, car washes and other events to raise money. Choctaw County Relay for Life was held on May 11. During the event, team members walk laps honoring survivors of cancer as well as cancer victims.


A special moment of silence is observed during the event, with lighted luminaries representing each life lost to cancer in Choctaw County.


The Choctaw Electric Relay for Life team received a plaque for the most money raised by a large group. The team raised money by hosting a variety of events including a garage sale, predator hunt, team roping, raffle, and a monthly employee drawing. The team participated in “painting the town purple”

where businesses purchased purple bows and placed them on the front of their businesses making the public aware of the American Cancer Society. They also sponsored a contestant in the “hot babe” contest. The CEC contestant “Eugenia ,“ aka Eugene Keeling,


won the contest, and raised money that helped the team reach their goal.


CEC’s team wish to thank the many volunteers and businesses that contributed to their success.

The team is already gearing up for the 2012- 2013 Relay for Life, with plans for a softball tournament and golf tournament in addition to the previously mentioned fund raisers. Go team!
