STATION MODERNISATION & EQUIPMENT

As Blackfriars station nears completion, Norman Emery, MD of Selux Lighting, talks about Selux’s contribution to the project.

product is well established; nevertheless we were delighted to be invited to provide lighting for such a milestone project.

O

Selux began work on initial specifications for Blackfriars over four years ago and have been working closely with contractors and designers

Blackfriars – a lighting show-

ur reputation in the rail industry for high quality, efficient and cost effective

to meet the specific demands of such a high profile project at the very heart of London’s transport network.

When complete, Blackfriars will be a showcase for Selux rail products, including many of our bestselling designs as well as a demonstration of Selux’s ability for high quality, innovative bespoke solutions.

Over 600 luminaires have been delivered on to the project, including the Selux SX510 Survivor, M200 x 90 and M125 x 90 railway cassettes – all high-spec extruded aluminium fittings protected to IP65 and IK10 for platform and concourse areas, and to section 12 standards for LUL

application.

We are particularly pleased with the bespoke blue LED light boxes developed specifically for the south stairs. Providing a solution that satisfied the aesthetic needs of the architect and met the stringent regulatory demands of the rail environment was just the sort of challenge the Selux technical team excel at.

The final effect will subtly illuminate the supporting columns for the stairwells, an accent feature that will be visible from within the station but also along the river and embankment.

With 2012 set to be a very important year for visitors to London we are pleased to have played our own small part in setting the stage and showing the world the best of British architecture and engineering.
