TRAINING
NSARE training directory goes live T
he National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering’s (NSARE) online training directory of accredited training providers and the courses they offer was launched in mid-June 2012.
Anyone, including members of the public, can search the directory to find a course or provider.
The launch of the online training directory follows the successful implementation of the new training accreditation system for Sentinel- related training. All accredited providers are entitled to a listing in the directory, which is an integral part of NSARE’s SkillsBackbone IT system.
NSARE’s Elaine Clark, head of process
development, and Bill Alexander, head of training and skills, gave RTM readers a detailed briefing on SkillsBackbone and the training directory in our April/May 2012 edition.
Employers and individuals can search the directory in a number of ways: by provider, by course, or advanced searches based on UK regions, countries or course level. The courses can also be browsed by category.
Teaching in the Work Based Learning Sector
NSARE and University of Derby Corporate are to offer a new course – the Certificate of Professional Development: Teaching in the Work Based Learning Sector.
NSARE said: “No user name or password is required – we want the directory to be as accessible as possible and for it to become a valuable resource to those people responsible for sourcing training.
“At the moment the majority of courses contained in the directory are Sentinel related, however, over time the directory will be expanded to cover a wide range of railway engineering training.”
Anyone wanting to just browse the directory can click ‘Log in as a guest’.
The system behind the directory was originally developed for the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink.

The training directory is available via the NSARE homepage:
www.nsare.org
The course is meant to specifically meet the needs of trainers and assessors working in the sector. It follows the Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector framework and is accredited at Level 4. Participants will also gain 40 credits which can be used against any future Derby awards.
The course is focused towards the skills a new trainer will need to deliver training for the first time, and reflects the most up to date methodology, and techniques in training delivery.
It’s also ideal for graduates, administrators or those interested in entering teaching within the sector, who have appropriate vocational qualifications and experience; or those with specialist or technical skills who have teaching or training as part of their current or future role, but hold no relevant teaching qualifications.

Sign up an Apprentice 2012 T
he new ‘Sign up an Apprentice 2012’ scheme promises to provide employers
with a free recruitment and training service and access to funding to support the skills development of Apprentices (16-18, 19-24 & 25+ Adult Apprenticeships).
Train’d Up is putting additional resources behind the new national drive,
and
has appointed Simon Long as National Apprenticeship Development Manager. He said: “We’re offering employers free consultancy advice and a commitment to work with them to identify which Apprenticeship programmes will best suit their individual needs.
“We can also provide employers with expert advice related to the latest attractive Government Apprenticeship Grants. In some cases this can lead to Employments Grants of up to £2,500 per new apprentice recruited.
“It is also worth noting that apprentices do not need to be new to a company, they can be existing employees in certain categories and we can assist in finding the right funding framework to match local needs.
“Our programme is a national initiative as we hold funding contracts with the Skills Funding Agency (England) and Skills Development Scotland to deliver a range of opportunities.”
Train’d Up offer Apprenticeship training in a wide range of vocational areas including: Railway Engineering, Railway Operations, Business & Administration, Customer Service, Engineering, Fencing, Learning & Development, and Team Leading & Management.
