£45m

refurbishment of Class 465s

Adam Hewitt reports on a successful refurbishment project for Southeastern.

E

versholt Rail Group is celebrating the completion of a £45m, two-year refurbishment of its Class 465/0 and 465/1 fleet, operated by Southeastern.

The improvements involved the couplings, trailer bogies, door systems and air systems.

Eversholt Rail’s CEO Mary Kenny said: “The success of this refurbishment programme is due to the collaborative working by Railcare and Southeastern with Eversholt Rail. This programme reflects Eversholt Rail’s ongoing commitment to fleet management and investment in its assets.”

The investment was done under the ROSCO’s Class 465 Fleet Half Life Repair Programme.

Wayne Jenner, engineering director for Southeastern, said: “Southeastern operates one of the busiest commuter networks in the UK, with over 2200 train services carrying 570,000 passengers a day.

“The heavy maintenance programme on the 465s was a big job that required an intensive project management plan, and this could not have been achieved

without the sheer hard work and professionalism of the individuals involved.

“We’re pleased to see the programme is now complete, it means far greater reliability, less train faults and an improved service for our passengers.”

Jamie Borgeat, commercial

director for Railcare, added: “The Class 465 refurbishment programme has been a significant part of Railcare’s success for the last two years.

“Much of this achievement grew from the effective project management control maintained throughout the project, aided by close co-operation

between all three companies and key suppliers.

“The successful execution of the project is a real credit to the project teams of Railcare, Eversholt and Southeastern.”

The 465/0s and 465/1s were all built in the early 1990s in York, and had their traction equipment replaced in 2009-10.
