Corrections and an omission EnCompass magazine, like AAA Colorado itself, is passionately com- mitted to service. And one way a magazine can serve its readers is to be completely accurate and error-free. Another way is for us to admit when we’ve made a mistake. In the May-June 2012 edition,

we made several, as some eagle-eyed readers pointed out. In order of appearance: Several engineers questioned our math in calculating the effects of a crash (“5 seat belt myths debunked,” SafeRoads, page 12). We offered this equation: body weight times vehicle speed = pounds of pressure. One retired engineer found that odd, and suggested a different equation: force = mass times acceleration. “Since the 25 mph velocity is roughly 36.7 ft/ sec, the velocity must reduce to zero is about 0.0455 seconds to cause an average force of 3,250 pounds,” the engineer wrote us—a calculation that he considers unlikely. “Tourist traps where you don’t mind getting caught,” pages 16-23, gives an incorrect distance between the Royal Gorge Bridge deck and the canyon floor beneath it. That distance is 956 feet.

“5 independent coffeehouses that

get us talking,” pages 26-28, gives the incorrect address for St. Mark’s Coffeehouse. The correct address is 2019 E. 17th Ave., Denver. The recipe for Frico Caldo in “Colorado Explorer: ‘Bone’-a fide sophistication,” page 55, omitted the ingredients for Cilantro Vinegar: • 1 Tbsp chopped cilantro • 1 Tbsp grapeseed oil • 1 tsp minced shallots • Sherry vinegar to taste • Salt to taste We greatly appreciate hearing from readers when they see something amiss. And we wouldn’t mind hearing what they like too. We want to keep getting better, and you can help.
