Travel Talk I order the H burger—100%
Angus beef, Hatch chile, smoked cheddar, sweet ‘n’ spicy bacon, Bibb lettuce, tomato, and onion, served with a red pepper-tomato jam. The irregularly cut fries, clearly done by hand, come in all sizes, from crunchy little bits to full-length, skin-on. Of all the places I visited, N, er, H, offered the best burger experience. –Tom Hess

Duffy’s Cherry Cricket 2641 E. 2nd St. 303-322-7666

The classic, 60s-era neon sign recalls the days when the Cherry Creek Mall site was a city dump site. But the Cricket’s very con- temporary menu of toppings make this beloved location most memorable—peanut butter & grape jelly; pineapple, provolone & ham; hot jack, chili strips, jala- penos & “atomic sauce,” to name just a few. My EnCompass-reading guest orders her quarter-pound Little Cricket with Swiss cheese and green chile strips. I get the half-pound Cricket with bacon, smoked cheddar and barbeque sauce. We split a basket of fries. No shakes here. The restaurant is divided into
three large rooms, each with lively Friday noon conversation. We’re seated at the booth right next to the front door and chat for more than an hour, unhur- ried by wait staff. –Tom Hess
