This unassuming joint offers a burger so similar to California’s In-n-Out classic that, if you close your eyes, you can imagine the noise you’re hearing is the rumble of the Pacifi c Ocean and Santa Monica freeway traffi c. The walls display vintage surfi ng posters, and the website plays California beach music and pictures surf- boards tilted against the restau- rant walls. When my wife and I visit, I order a “wild style” Drifters burger, grilled with mustard. It tastes just like In-n-Out’s “animal style” mustard burger. The fries are crisp, hot and plentiful. At the next table is a couple like us, seated side by side and relishing memories of California vacations. Until In-n-Out opens in Colorado, this independent operator is the next best thing. –Tom Hess
