INSIGHT Commitment to quality

Owlett-Jaton, part of the Hexstone Group, and the company behind leading fastener and fixings experts JCP Fixings, Galaxy Fasteners, Icon Fasteners, and Stainless Threaded Fasteners, has joined forces with Draper Tools Ltd - a hand and power tool distributor. Here national sales manager (Jaton), Tony Williams, discusses the partnership and its impact.

A

s a dominant force in the fasteners and fixings market, Owlett-Jaton began life with a clear ethos: a commitment to quality. While this has not changed, our customer base has, growing substantially in recent years. Today, we are the largest leading provider in the sector

offering an unrivalled range of more than 30,000 fasteners, fixings and associated products to the wholesaler and merchant trade. As well as supplying dedicated products for the automotive and construction markets, we have a wide range of tier one suppliers and distributors. Our sales consistently reach up to four million screws a day; making us the largest single source of industrial fasteners in the UK and the biggest stockholder in the industry. We have discovered that customer confidence has been driven

by a combination of factors: a product range that has grown year- on-year, product availability and consistency of supply, combined with a dedicated approach to customer service plus sharing of our knowledge and experience. However, our success remains founded on our commitment

to quality. This is the first rule we apply when expanding our product portfolio and without these standards in place, we would not achieve consistent success with customers who demand exemplary quality. It has given us the ability to respond to demand quickly and confidently and this has allowed us to offer much more than the niche products that we were perhaps originally known for. Now, we try to offer everything a customer needs from one source, meaning they can save time and, in turn, money. Our business model focuses on convenience and consistency.

We provide a ‘shopping basket’ approach where suppliers can pick and choose from high quality products, in the knowledge that we research and source only the very best. To many customers, Owlett-Jaton has become an extension of their stock room. Our 125,000 square foot warehouse stocks all of the essentials, as well as the niche ranges, which enables us to appeal to many industry sectors as a ‘one stop shop’.

The Draper effect The partnership with Draper Tools Ltd has allowed us to

strengthen our offer even further and, for the first time, we can offer our customers a selection of professional-grade hand tools that are of guaranteed trade quality. As one of the UK’s leading hand and power tool distributors, Draper has been a household name since 1919 and is a brand that we, and in turn, our customers can trust. Their products are quality controlled at each stage of the manufacturing and testing process, which is all carried out

at the Draper head office in Hampshire. The industry-

recognised quality and value of Draper products, allied with the exceptional service and distribution expertise of Owlett- Jaton, make this a powerful partnership, opening a whole new avenue for Owlett-Jaton customers, in an ability to purchase quality tools at great value prices. The range, which is largely taken from Draper’s ‘Expert Quality’ portfolio, features everything from general tools to specific construction, plumbing and engineering tools. To celebrate the launch we have introduced a dedicated

Draper product guide for customers, explaining the features and benefits of the tools in the range that set them apart from other tools available in the marketplace. We are extremely excited about the partnership and to see how our customers respond to our latest offering.

About Owlett-Jaton As well as an ever-expanding, comprehensive product

portfolio, the Owlett-Jaton service promise means that stock is available via next day delivery with no minimum order charges accounting for the majority of business. An increasingly popular

way to access and order our products is OJ Trade which is Owlett-Jaton’s online trading portal; somewhere customers and visitors can view the entire product range. Customers can register to check stock availability and prices and can place orders 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The ‘real time’ functionality of the site also means product enquiries and selling prices can be calculated instantly. Other features include the ability to store and review enquiries for future reference, access to order, invoice, and credit details that can be viewed online or printed off, and a ‘purchase manager’ facility to store details of regularly purchased products. Owlett-Jaton bases are strategically placed across the

UK, from the headquarters in Stone (Staffordshire), to Elland, Swindon and Milton Keynes, meaning we can provide next day delivery to any part of the country.
