EXHIBITIONS Totally ploughs on

Organisers Brintex reported a philosophical, but upbeat mood, after poor travelling conditions resulted in the Totally Show, staged for the third year in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC), receiving reduced visitor numbers compared to previous years.

R

eporting unaudited statistics, show director James Murray commented: “We finished the show on just over 3,000 visitors - to whom we’d like to say a big thank you for braving the conditions and attending.” He added:

“Both our exhibitors and visitors struggled through tough travel conditions to get to the show, so we were delighted to hear from many of our exhibitors that they saw, and did business with, a good range of buyers from across the industry.” In contrast to previous years, this year Totally Show was held

in Hall 16, which is not connected to any of the other halls at the NEC. This meant that there was no direct cross-over with visitors to Spring Fair International. Visitors had to consciously go to Hall 16 to explore Totally’s 100+ exhibitors. Totally comprises of three strongly DIY and hardware retailer

targeted product sectors – DIY, Tools and Secure – although there was no clear segmentation in the hall between the different sectors. There were several tool companies situated around the hall,

who all had a big presence. Draper Tools had a stand near to the entrance, Am-Tech and Rolson Tools had impressive stands next to the ‘Retail Tool Box’, and Abingdon King Dick had a stand situated at the back of the hall. A focal point of the show was Totally’s ‘Retail Tool Box’, which

is a dedicated demonstration and activity area that has become a feature of Totally over recent years. Throughout the three days there were a variety of exhibitors who held presentations and gave demonstrations in front of a refreshment area and static displays of the entrants to Totally’s ‘Show Stopper’ best new products awards. The ‘Show Stopper’ awards were handed out on the first day of

the show, with the four gold winners including Gorilla Glue for its O’Keeffe’s Working Hands hand cream; Oracstar for its EcoStar water saving range; Karcher’s Window Vac; and 100 Whats for its Sticky Dirt Bag. Scott Pryor of 100 Whats commented: “This is our first time

at the Totally Show and we are delighted to win an award.” He added: “The show started off slow, but thanks to the award we

Tape manufacturer Shurtape UK launched its new Delicate

Surface painter’s masking tape at Totally. Alan Murray, head of marketing at Shurtape said: “Like the original FrogTape®

Multi-

Surface, new Delicate Surface removes cleanly without leaving a residue because of its special low-tack formula. Additionally, the unique washi paper which was designed for delicate surfaces has a translucent appearance that allows consumers to easily see the area they are masking.” Shurtape UK highlighted its products’ capabilities by giving multiple demonstrations of its FrogTape® tapes and DuckTape®

painter’s masking products throughout the show, and

reported having a “fantastic reaction from customers” to the demonstrations. Next year the Totally Show will run from 3rd

– 5th February

2013, once again in Hall 16, at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

have steadily had more visitors to our stand and have given lots of demonstrations on the benefits of the Sticky Dirt Bag.” The Sticky Dirt Bag enables users to collect unwanted dust

and debris whilst drilling into surfaces. The user simply peels away the protective strip and sticks the Sticky Dirt Bag onto the required surface. They then pull the bag out to lock open, drill above the markers and the bag will catch all the unwanted dust and debris. The Sticky Dirt Bag even features a measurement guide at the

top of the bag, meaning that users don’t need a tape measure. They can simply mark directly on the bag where they want to drill or leave instructions for others. Other notable products at the show included Sika’s MaxTack,

a three second grab, high-strength adhesive suitable for various substrates. Sika reported that they were please how the show had gone considering the weather, but it was notably quieter than previous years and some of its competitors were not exhibiting this year.
