MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY
Environmentally friendly production
With the AF series Flat Die Thread Rolling machines EWMenn says it has taken another step towards more efficient fastener production.
T
he AF 14 is equipped with up to date features, such as hydraulic die carrier clamping and push button adjustments for die match and shank length. The Adaptive Die Match system (ADM) which permanently
electronically monitors and, if required, automatically adjusts die match is another highlight. The AF 14 can run at speeds from 45 to 150 pieces per minute with die lengths of 230mm/255mm or WB #40. Shorter dies can, of course, be used without difficulty. A new feature is the new
feeding mechanism which is driven by the newest linear motor technology.
Efficient operation In addition to the features
listed above EWMenn presents a new and energy efficient drive concept. Servo Drives not only offer high flexibility and a wide
speed range in daily production, they also offer high energy efficiency and a powerful adjustment mode including an
electronic hand wheel. The south
westphalian manufacturer shows this concept on the AF series. It is based on custom tailored drive dimensions and intelligent management of main and auxiliary drives. Only motors and other drive components with high energy efficiency classification are used. Part of this concept is the flywheel energy storage system which enables storing energy and releasing it to cover peak loads. Especially when high forming power is required the AF series demonstrate its energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. The servo motor main drive with its high torque even at low speeds in connection with the flywheel energy storage does not require external cooling. “This way we can save energy when running in production
while we can avoid high investments in the infrastructure around the machine,” says Ernst W. Menn, president of EWMenn. The new Flat Die Thread Rolling machines of the AF series are “our new highlights when it comes to energy efficient and environmentally friendly production: Our ECOLINE.”

machines is based on bending the screws over their yield point, yielding 90% straightness in the first pass. The feed rates for the machines are 70ppm – 120ppm, with the machines straightening the second parts when the first blank is still in between the dies. Videx highlights that the straight bolts exit the

to 320mm long, with both machines having low- cost tooling and can be used for thread rolling only, if needed.”
he two basic models available are the single spindle models (VA-S) for straightening hardened bolts and the dual-spindle models (VA-ST) for straightening and thread rolling. Videx explains that the straightening principle for both
