EXECUTIVE HIRE SHOW REVIEW continued
Green Armadillo sighted at Ricoh
Being displayed at the North entrance to the Ricoh Arena was Garic’s 12V Eco Armadillo welfare unit, powered by solar photovoltaic (PV) cells and backed up by a 12V super silent
generator. The manufacturer says that, in tests, the product emitted 80% less CO2 than a standard 240V diesel powered unit, and reduced fuel costs by up to £150 a week. The unit has hot running water available in the toilet cubicle and it also incorporates motion sensor activated LED lighting, thermostatic heating, frost protection and a facility that is designed to provide boiling water to make hot drinks at the push of a button. The Armadillo also has anti-vandal door locks and shutters, a hydraulic chassis to lower it to the ground when in position for stability and security, and a lockable steel tow hitch cover. Garic says the unit can be customised to meet individual requirements.

An easily transportable screener was launched by Mace Industries. Appropriately called the Mini-Screen, it is powered by a 0.55kW electric motor from a 110V supply and can be quickly dismantled so that it can be carried in the boot of a car. Designed for processing soil and other materials, the machine has a screening area of 600mm by 400mm and comes as standard with three screen decks with sizes of 12, 18 and 24mm. The screen box, which has a central vibrator shaft and side mounted motor, is supported in operation on a purpose made stand through four heavy-duty spring mounts. All electrical connections are waterproofed to IP44.

Doosan shows Geith mini quick coupler
At a time when end users are requesting fully automatic quick couplers on ever smaller excavators, the Doosan Benelux stand display included Geith’s latest QC35-40H model, which is designed for use on minis with operating weights ranging from 2 to 4 tonne.
Incorporating a fabricated top plate and no greasing points, it allows the operator to safely change buckets and attachments without leaving the machine’s cab. The coupler can accommodate variable pin centres and its patented double pin locking system is designed to retain the bucket or attachment in a safe position, even if there is a loss of hydraulic pressure. Clearly visible from the cab, the front safety lock is activated by a powerful spring and hydraulic cylinder. There is also a separate rear pin safety lock with two strong springs. To aid operational flexibility, the design allows buckets to be reversed so that they can be used in face-shovel configuration.
