We caught up with Bill Crawford (left) and Jan Looijenga of Guernsey-based Project Hire & Sales on Belle’s stand.
Our location means that we don’t get to see as many suppliers as we would perhaps like to, and we don’t see manufacturers’ sales reps often, so the Show is a great opportunity to touch base with companies like Belle, from which we purchase regularly
throughout the year. We have seen some excellent products and placed orders here, including the new Hurricane Combi from Demon Pressure Washers, and Camon log splitters. We also bought some generators from Pramac along with its new pallet truck with tough plastic forks, which seems ideal for work in ‘clean’ environments like food processing plants. We also really enjoyed the Executive Hire Party on the Wednesday evening. It was very well organised and it was a great opportunity to network and catch up with industry contacts.

Visiting the Show is all about keeping in touch with existing contacts and making new ones. We get a real kick out of the exhibition, and there have been so many new products and opportunities to examine and explore. As well as buying more Obart 3in pumps for our fleet, we bought a couple of Sumner material lifts, some more Belle plate compactors and ten sets of the new podium steps launched by Euro Towers. We also ordered some Santorini patio heaters from Lifestyle Appliances who were exhibiting in the Top Tier. Apparently, they proved so popular that more are having to be imported. The Ricoh
Arena is an
excellent venue, and overall it is great to see the Show continuing to develop and going from strength to strength.

Like other businesses we have to prioritise our time and, to be honest, we had previously regarded the Show as more ‘tool’ than ‘plant’ orientated. However, we were impressed to see the likes of Volvo and Bomag here, and suppliers like HPC, all companies we deal with. We arrived at 2pm on the Wednesday, on our way to down to London for an appointment the next day, and there was so much to see that we ended up virtually having to be dragged out of the hall when the exhibition closed. It’s not just about the products: we met up with lots of contacts and competitors, and the event was obviously very well supported by national hirers and independents, making a great atmosphere. We have put the February 6 and 7 dates in the diary for next year’s Show, and we’ll probably stay overnight to get the most of our visit.

Jason Fielden of EPS Hire Centres was impressed by the GantiCharger from Gantic AS, which was a Finalist in the Innovation Zone.
If I hadn’t attended the Show, I would not have found out about this great
product, which we have bought to use in our workshops, charging batteries on powered access equipment. Some machines have banks of several batteries, and the GantiCharger is designed to charge each one to an optimum level in sequence, without the risk of overcharging them. During my visit I have also bought a
Freeze Master electric pipe freezer, a compact Camon log splitter that will go in a customer’s car boot, and looked at safety products on the impressive OX Group stand as potential re-sale items. I also touched base with key suppliers like Hilti, Husqvarna and The Hire Supply Company.

The Show just keeps getting better. I always find something new, and this year there was even more on display. The variety of exhibitors was also impressive, ranging from power tools and consumables, to compact plant and powered access machinery. I have really enjoyed my visit.
