We came across John Davies of Hire-It! Kidderminster examining Tacklestore’s TM12 lifting/rescue device, which was a Finalist in the Innovation Zone.

This is a really great idea,

effectively being two products in one. You can use it as a man lift with one tripod, or with two as a lifting gantry, giving more hire opportunities.

We serve a lot of manufacturing and engineering companies and this would appeal to them. You always have to be on the lookout for new ideas, and the Innovation Zone is very well worth visiting. I went to the Show with a recently joined staff member on the Thursday, so that they could gain an insight into our industry, and two of our workshop personnel visited on the Wednesday, so that they could see equipment and ask questions of suppliers from a servicing point of view. I also talked to the staff on the Gordons Ford stand. We bought a Transit from them after last year’s Show, which we had specially adapted to accommodate fence panels as well as other equipment, and we are considering adding more vehicles in the future.

One of displays that drew the attention of Neil (right) and Bruce Graham of The Hireman (London) was the range of breakers on the Bosch stand.

We are particularly impressed by the latest GBH 8 and GSH 11 Professional models, designed for performance and low vibration. It was good to catch up with the company at the Show. We also spent time on the Makita stand, and we enjoyed talking to the team at Euro Towers, which was launching its new Step Fold Podiums that we had an input in designing and have added to our fleet. We were delighted that our SE1 depot was nominated as a Finalist in the Passionate Hirer Awards, and the fact that we were runners up has simply spurred us on to do even better. The Awards event at the Executive Hire Party is really important because it helps build a sense of professionalism, celebrating the excellence, expertise and customer service our industry depends on. It will be great to see an expanded event next year. Overall, the Show is an invaluable way of keeping in touch with suppliers and industry contacts, and it is a ‘must attend’ event in the calendar.

display of stickers it produces for hire companies, including Alide Hire Services, whose MD Gareth Hayward, pictured (right) with Graham Higdon, was quick to spot his logo in the line-up.

I’ve had a really great day here. I always look forward to visiting the

Show, being able to see existing suppliers and meet new ones. I came here with a budget to spend and have bought an Avant Tecno articulated loader to facilitate moving portable toilets in our yard, along with wallpaper strippers and heaters from The Hire Supply Company. I was very impressed with Hilti’s TE 3000-AVR breaker, Husqvarna’s

Cut-n-Break wall saw, and Eurofloor’s drum floor sanders, as well as Youngman’s Ecolite lighting tower with ambient light sensors for automatic operation. It was also a great opportunity to look at potential re-sale items, such as the ‘barrow in a box’ from Parker Merchanting. The exhibition enables hirers to make contact with many suppliers in

one day, and there’s a good balance of products covering all the important equipment categories. It’s definitely the place for hirers and suppliers to be seen at, and you really can’t afford not to be here.

Murray Webster (right) and Mike Grant from Webster Power Products in Wishaw derived a great deal from their visit.

As well as seeing new products at the Show, we found it valuable taking time out of our normal routine, and having the chance to focus on possible new business avenues and opportunities. It was good to see so many new suppliers exhibiting. Geko Engineering’s Stump Beaver grinder looks very impressive, as does the range of gas cylinders from Hobbyweld, which we will be trying. We liked the look of the Faraone tracked access machines from Power Lift UK, and we bought some dehumidifiers and air blowers from Dri-Eaz. We also discussed ways in which our business can save money on insurance with NPA Noyce Livett. We spent a full day at the Show, and having the additional Top Tier this year was great - from our point of view, the more there is to see, the better! The Show’s value is in bringing everyone in our industry together, and we plan to be back again in 2013 when it marks the 40th anniversary of hire exhibitions.
