Franchise Focus Taking action

Hayley Erner has experienced tremendous success with her ActionCOACH franchise

INVESTMENT LEVEL: £61,000

has become one of the franchise’s most successful coaches, banking £40,000 per month, with a roster of A-grade clients and a waiting list. Hayley’s connection with ActionCOACH

“I

began not as a coach but as a client, when she needed help with her family’s jewellery business. Hayley says: “When my sister and I bought

the business from our parents in 2002, I quickly realised that I didn’t want to step into my father’s shoes and work all the hours he’d worked. He was involved in a lot of the day- to-day running of the business and that was something I didn’t want for myself.” The sisters seized the opportunity to fi nd

a better way to run things and consulted a local ActionCOACH – it was through working with him and learning how to manage her business more effectively that Hayley caught the coaching bug. She says: “In just six months I learnt

masses. Before long the business was functioning with far less reliance on me. I loved the coaching and it made me wonder ‘how many businesses could benefi t from knowing what I’ve learnt?’” At around the same time Hayley’s coach invited her to an ActionCOACH conference and the spark of an idea turned into a fl ame. “It blew me away, I just loved the people”,

she says. “They were clever, diverse and confi dent; the atmosphere in the room was brilliant. I suddenly thought, ‘I’m doing the wrong thing, I should be coaching!’ I’d experienced for myself how an ActionCOACH can transform a business and I wanted to do that for others.” Having reached this career-changing

decision, Hayley felt the only way forward was to become an ActionCOACH. She says: “I had complete confi dence in the ActionCOACH tools and techniques. Having experienced them fi rst-hand as a client, I knew

’m a do-what-it-takes kind of girl”, says Hayley Erner. A casual glance at the meteoric rise of Hayley’s ActionCOACH business suggests she certainly is. In fi ve years she

failed, namely that she would not ride her horse for six months. To ensure she reached the target, Hayley met the ActionCOACH with the best conversion rate in the UK to learn how to handle prospect meetings. This goal-orientated approach helped

Hayley succeed that fi rst month and she has hit every target she’s set herself since. In her fi rst year she was awarded ActionCOACH European Rookie Coach of the Year and has subsequently won numerous awards including the ActionCOACH Global Award for outstanding performance and Yorkshire & Humberside Business Advisor of the Year. It’s the work with her clients, however, that

gives her the most pleasure. She is currently coaching 17 clients whom she sees weekly. Her clients typically range between £1million and £10million in turnover and are from a variety of sectors. Whilst her clients are diverse, Hayley’s

impact on them is uniformly outstanding. For instance, she has worked with Russell Smith Chartered Accountants since 2006. Russell Smith was originally a sole trader with part- time staff. Today he has a team of 10 and is able to work a four-day week so he can spend time with his young son. Hayley confi rms: “Having spent 25 years

they worked. It’s the world’s No.1 coaching company, so it made absolute sense to buy an ActionCOACH franchise.” Hayley didn’t delay, she refi nanced her

home to buy the franchise and then, with single-minded determination, set about growing her coaching business. “I had to learn how to sell coaching,

something completely new for me, but I naively didn’t worry about how I’d win clients. I felt that if others can do it, I just needed to learn what they do.” “My thinking was to connect with the very

best coaches ActionCOACH has to offer, people who are already doing brilliantly, and to simply model what I do on them. That way I couldn’t go wrong.” Hayley wanted to bank £12,000 in her

fi rst month. To motivate herself she devised some rewards if she achieved the target and committed to something unthinkable if she

in my family business I know fi rst-hand how overwhelming and exhausting it is running a small business. It can dominate your family life. So it’s an absolute thrill helping business owners ‘get out of’ their business and get it working for them, delivering their dreams.” As for Hayley’s own coaching business, it’s

expanding fast. She now has a great team running the business, handling client liaison and marketing. This leaves Hayley free to concentrate on coaching and sales. She has a thriving, highly profi table business, which gives her a six-fi gure income, funds a great lifestyle plus leaves her with surplus cash to invest. What’s more, the business is running on her terms. She doesn’t begin coaching each day until 10.30am, which leaves her free to ride her beloved horses. Looking back over the last fi ve years,

Hayley is more convinced than ever that her decision to move to ActionCOACH was a good one. She adds: “I only need to look at my tax bill

to know how successful ActionCOACH has been for me. The bill is bigger than the entire annual drawings I used to take before I was a coach.” 
