his season has seen Flat Track women racers take great inroads in the world of sliding, not just qualifying for mains and placing well, but on the Grand National Circuit (GNC) it was feisty Shayna Texter racing with memories of fallen family members, becoming the first woman racer to win a GNC round. Texter set sail holding off Briar Bauman in the AMA Pro Singles main for the historic win at Iowa's Knoxville Raceway. She went on to finish eighth in points in the 2011 GNC Pro Singles. Southern California Flat Track Association (SCFTA) has many Women and Girls strapping on the head gear and racing well with potential to follow in the tire tracks of Texter.
T Harly Legowski has been a fixture at SCFTA Jaycee Jones
events for many years earning the number one plate in the SCFTA 2010 Open Amateur. This year, admittedly for the dedicated racer she had a tough year and was unable to retain her number one SCFTA plate. However her love for the green flag will bring her back next year seeming relieved to have her good old buddy back, number eighty-three. Always the motor-head, Legowski has offers to run another flat of a different kind, Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. After one opportunity that did not go as planned, she is hoping to be on the salt in a Streamliner sometime in the near future. She would like to thank Clock Work South Dakota, So-Cal Performance, /X, and CP- Carrillo. Twelve year old Allison Stacey has seen her share of podium tops in just a few years of racing. Growing up sliding in the Central California region frequenting the now defunct Hanford track and racing quite often with the Barnburners at Chowchilla, now Fresno, where she has many awards. Several major accomplishments have been earned by the young tigress recently. Setting her mark in the Eddie Mulder West Coast Vintage Dirt Track Series, she repeated her 2010 Youth 85 Series Championship for 2011, racing to two firsts and on the box in five of the six
rounds she competed in. Stepping up to a 250F for 2011 the youngster placed third in the 250 Open points, gathering up a first at round two and going to two seconds and two thirds throughout the series run. Placing first in the Youth 65 2010 Mulder series she went on to sixth in 65 Modified at the Amateur Nationals.
Stacey proves her valor with her sheer determination on the track, slamming down good starts repeatedly her formula is getting stronger by the race. Displaying an uncanny knack on the track to have patience and not forcing the issue she gets the job done. In 2011 SCFTA action Stacey missed four rounds in Youth 85 but still finished third in the points, she also managed a third in the Open Novice engaging against the bigger 450's on her 250. Stacey has all the indicators that she will be a force in the GNC when the time comes to pull the hammer. Stacey gives a special thanks to 661, Kal-Gard, Go Pro, Dunlop, Wiseco, Matrix and her devoted parents. She is a “racer to watch.” The daughter of SCFTA starter Rudy Gil, Monica Gil just gets out there and has fun. On her way to having too much fun she slipped in the 2011 SCFTA Youth 85 series title. A very impressive run on the podium for Gil, finishing off the box in only two of the twelve rounds she competed.
Alyssa Flores interviewed like a seasoned veteran. Going against her little brother in the Youth 65, she was relishing the moment, besting her brother by twenty points in the final standings and taking the class crown to her brother’s second. Her brother, Frank Flores, was laughing but did indicate there is indeed a sibling rivalry that continues at home but it is all in fun. Alyssa Flores will be in the Youth 85 for 2011 on a tricked out Yamaha YZ85. She would like to thank Ron's Rear Ends, Richie's Hydraulics, Flores Design, and the folks.
Jaycee Jones enjoyed her first season of racing and just hanging out with family and her buddies. The tough as nails young lady went down hard in turn three cleaning her clock. Undeterred, she got back on finished up her race, but was walking with a severe limp that appeared to be more like a badge of honor than any type of injury to her. Jones did well for her first complete season under the SCFTA banner with a second in the final points of Youth 85. A sincere thank you to Mark's Performance, B&B Engineering, Joe's Design of Wildomar, and a very special thanks to Mom and Dad. Eight-year-old Ava Bush likes letting the gas out of the straights and having her dad help her out on the track. She gets good grades in school and thanks her family for letting her race. She finished fourth in the Youth 50 for 2011, racing to three podiums in the series. Courtney D’Avignon escaped my interviews but raced to a second in Youth 50 points.
