We spent 10 days this summer in the Sierra’s. The days were perfect with mild nights. Pictured is our disbursed campsite near Dinky Creek. Many of the 4WD trails opened late this year due to downed trees. On one of our day drives we found this old logging camp that was overgrown with Lupine. — Dwight & Lynda Pepin, Vandenberg Village, CA

We are all friends, win or lose! Tripones and Gordos Racing shaking hands after a good day of racing around in the desert.

Our best off road memory of the year was finding the 1960 Chevy 4WD project truck we had been trying to find for several years. Its almost an exact duplicate of the truck owned by my dad in the 1960’s and 70’s, except his wasn’t four wheel drive but I thought it was. We had a lot of fun in that truck as teenagers and we’re looking forward to lots of fun with this one in 2012!

Most know me by “Diablo.” I started NSDR in Meccacopia Trails a.k.a. “Drop 31”. This area has been used for many years and just really never received much attention until this year. My purpose this year and in the future is to bring more people together who have always loved the desert fun. So I started inviting more people to ride together, people from all different places, not just from the nearby valley. I created a page on Facebook where we can take feedback from all and also to post future get-togethers. We have been trail riding and racing in the Coachella Valley for many years. From Dillon to the Shovel at Date Palm and the Ocotillo Wells/Salton City areas. Just a few years ago some of these places were shut down for us to use, except the Ocotillo Wells/Salton City which belongs to San Diego and Imperial Counties. The Riverside County decided to prohibit any and all off-road activity throughout the county. Meccacopia Trails in North Shore is the only legal place to ride in Riverside County. Please take your time to avoid littering and keep this place clean for future use. We don’t want the only place for us to ride to be closed. So stop by and take a ride in our backyard. Thanks. — Luis Alberto Aguilar

I think the best memory for this year would be going to England as part of Team USA at the Vet’s Motocross des Nations held at Farleigh Castle with Scott Burnworth, Jim Gibson, Chuck Sun and Jeff Stanton as the team riders, myself as mechanic/translator and Debbie Burnworth, Christy Gibson, Greg Luck and Rick Sparling rounding out the travel team. We got third out of 14 teams from 12 countries and 56 riders!
