brochures, various items and on the website. The tagline is the result of several months of surveying and research, with heavy input from the National Line Offi cers and Headquarters staff. (The tagline does not replace the offi cial motto of the organization, nor does it constitute a mission statement or replace the offi cial objects of the organization.) “For nearly 100 years, Sisters, we have supported the truest heroes of our country,” President Rankin said. “I’d say that’s unwavering! And these heroes? They are everyday men and women doing amazing things for this country. That makes them truly uncommon!” At the California Dreamin’ Banquet, members enjoyed an evening of entertainment and presentations. National President Rankin made
the fi rst two presentations of the year. The fi rst donation of $5,000 was to The Pathway Home, a transition center dedicated to the most recent veterans from overseas confl icts. This generation of veterans must be reached differently than previous generations. The Pathway Home, started and run by Executive Director Fred Gusman, is willing to try any and every avenue that might help in the healing and transition process. Learn more at

The Ladies Auxiliary VFW raises nearly $3 million every year to fund cancer research and assist members who have cancer. The National President can donate up to $200,000 to cancer research facilities during her year. This year, President Rankin made her fi rst donation to the University of California at Davis’ Cancer Center. In memory of Past National President JoAnne Ott and in honor of President Rankin’s sister-in-law, a $50,000 donation was directed toward ovarian cancer research. (Since the time of the event, President Rankin’s sister-in- law passed away from the disease.) VFW Commander-in-Chief Richard DeNoyer took the opportunity as keynote speaker to remind members of what he and President Rankin are working for: veterans, young and old.
