8. TRUSTEES, DUTIES OF: National Bylaws, Sec. 814: All audits are to be completed by the elected Trustees, with a minimum of two (2) in attendance. The President, Secretary and Treasurer should attend the audit. All pages attached to the record books shall be signed by the Trustees at time of the audit. A signed copy of the audit shall be forwarded to the Department Treasurer. A pro tem can be appointed to audit the books under extenuating circumstances.
9. Auxiliaries, remember to send your per member donations for Cancer Aid & Research to your Department Treasurer. This year, members are encouraged to send $5.00 per member and help their Department achieve one of the new Silver, Gold or Platinum awards. See Page 6 of the National Program Book for awards. Members wishing to donate individually should give donations to their Auxiliary Treasurer.
10. If there is a military base in your area, don’t forget to visit and show your support. This is an ongoing program, not just a holiday program.
11. If you haven’t sent your donation of $.10 or more per member for the Health & Happiness/Christmas Cheer Fund, you can still do so. The National Home has continuing expenses for which the Ladies Auxiliary is responsible. Auxiliaries donating $.25 or more per member are entitled to a citation. See Page 30-31 of the National Program Book for more information.
12. Auxiliary and Department Treasurers are reminded to remit membership transmittals on a regular basis to ensure the timely processing of membership on all levels.
13. At the 98th National Convention, a resolution to the Ritual was passed with the following wording:
“At the wish of the Auxiliary, meetings may be conducted according to Demeter’s Manual of Parliamentary Law and Procedure; thus a round table meeting is held. The opening prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, checking dues cards, minutes, Treasurer’s report, closing prayer, etc., are still required, but are completed without the Ritualistic ceremony presently prescribed.”
This means that a Ladies Auxiliary may, by a motion made and passed, create a standing rule that allows the Ladies Auxiliary to hold a meeting without floor work, without the floor work set-up and without the scripted Ritualistic opening, meeting order and closing on Pages 73-82 (2011 edition; pages may change in the 2012 edition). The only essential elements should include those listed in the resolution above, with the meeting conducted according to parliamentary procedure as prescribed by Demeter’s (available through the VFW Store). The intention of the resolution was to delete non-essential elements from a Ladies Auxiliary meeting in order to keep meetings as short as possible.
By order of:
Gwendolyn Rankin National President
Attest: Jan Owens National Secretary
CORRECTION
On Page 10 of the November issue of the magazine, we incorrectly reported the total funds raised for the VFW National Home’s bathroom renovation project in the Home’s guest lodge.
