Stitching

Te holly leaves are three dimensional with red beads for holly berries. 1. Satin stitch two leaves right sides together. If desired, use fusible web to adhere together. 2. Position leaves in tri-cluster on background. Secure with pins. 3. Stitch in place, using only a centre seam to attach and to mimic leaf veins. Repeat for total of two clusters of holly leaves. 4. Stitch red beads in place for holly berries.

FINISHING

1. Layer backing and wadding with quilt top. Secure by pinning or basting. 2. Prepare and trim mantel runner for scallop borders. See page 78 for instructions. 3. Quilt. Our quilter quilted a meandering stitch. Te background is dark with gold stars; any quilting is hard to see, so extensive quilting was not necessary. Te feature panels’ shapes were outline quilted setting the shapes apart. 4. Join binding strips. 5. Fold binding strips in half lengthwise. Align and attach gold cording to folded edge of binding for attaching simultaneously to runner. 6. Follow scallop instructions for best practice when attaching binding. 7. Finish top edges of runner by folding under and topstitching into place.
