Sashing 1. Sew five 2” squares in a row. 2. Sew five more 2” squares in a row. 3. Sew a 2¼” x 2” square to the end of each row. 4. Sew the rows together lengthwise. Set aside checker unit with the 2¾” x 14¾” dark sashing strip.

4. Align 45° mark on a ruler at strip base and cut from outside bottom corner up to inside seam of section for first triangle partial. Diagram 3

5. Rotate remaining strip so the larger end is at bottom. Diagram 4
Block 7 1. Sew the 4½” x 8” appliqué star block to top of four-prong square. 2. Sew the 4½” x 6” appliqué heart block to bottom of second four-prong square. 3. Sew the heart and prong unit to the left side of Block 7 background. 4. Sew the 13⅛” x 2½” dark sashing strip to the bottom of Block 7 unit. 5. Sew the 1⅝” x 11¾” strip dark sashing strip to side of Block 7 unit. 6. Sew star and prong unit to the left side of sashing strip. Block 7 unit should measure 20¾” x 11½”.

6. Align partial triangles according to illustration and sew together, adjacent triangles first. Diagram 5
Block 8 1. Sew the star unit to the left side of the Block 8 background. 2. Sew the 12” x 2½” dark sashing strip to the Block 8 unit. Block 8 unit should measure 12” x 11½”. Set aside blocks, checker strip and sashing strip for continuation of next issue.

7. Trim to 4½” square. Repeat Steps 1-7 with second set of 2½” x 7” light and dark strips for a total of two partial-triangles, four-prong squares.
