Celebrating Dublin, City of Science 2012, we invite you to send in a quilt entry for our Science In My Quilt competition. We encourage you to think about how science and quilting connect. Is it in the math? Does your quilt have a theme from a galaxy far, far away? Or is it precise formation or technique and fabric or thread?
Follow these rules and enter the Science in My Quilt competition. Group entries are welcome!
Any technique may be used. Size should be no larger than one square metre (39”). Quilt should consist of at least two layers. Traditional binding is optional. Quilt should include a 3” deep sleeve at back. Quilt should include a name and contact number on the back of the quilt. Written summary should include description of quilt and/or process.
Send your quilt to Irish Quilting before 1 June 2012. Post entry to Irish Quilting, Vilavita, Garrenstackle, Bree, Enniscorthy, County Wexford, Ireland. Finalist quilts may appear in travelling exhibitions and will be returned by 30 November 2012. Feel free to direct questions to Irish Quilting by emailing editorial@ irishquilting.ie or ringing +353 (0) 1 442 8757.
Dublin has been chosen to host Europe’s largest science conference, 2012 Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) from 11-15 July, 2012. To celebrate this prestigious, international event in Dublin, the City of Science 2012, a programme of science- related events and activities, will run throughout the year across the island of Ireland.
“Euroscience was founded in 1997 by members of Europe's research community to provide an open forum for debate on science, technology and research policies in Europe; strengthen the links between science
and society; contribute to the creation of an integrated space for science and technology in Europe, linking research organizations and policies at national and EU levels; and to support the role of the EU in research and to influence science and technology policies.
We were delighted to win the right to host ESOF 2012 against formidable competition. Our team is determined to make ESOF 2012 in Dublin an overwhelming success.”
Professor Patrick Cunningham, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Irish Government and Champion of ESOF2012
