7. Complete embroidery stitching. • Draw letters on background with a water soluble fabric pen. Always test prior to use.

Effective Trims and Accents • Pinking shears create frilly ribbons for appliqué bells.
• Miniature bells ring from the church top. • Jewelled beads light up the village shops. • Embroidered smoke livens the chimneys.
FINISHING
1. Sew the two short borders to the top and bottom of the quilt centre. 2. Sew the two long borders to each side of the quilt centre. 3. Layer the quilt and its backing. Secure in place. 4. Quilt as desired. As Frances did most her quilting when attaching appliqué, minimum quilting is needed for this wall hanging. Frances outlined each section. 5. Join binding strips as needed. 6. Fold in half lengthwise and press. 7. Attach using a walking foot.
Tip For seasonal hangings that might be folded and stored, treat cotton before sewing to avoid wrinkles. Use fabric sizing or starch on the cotton background pieces.
