Quilt Postcards on Show, and Much More By Sherry Nugent
At a chance encounter at the Irish Patchwork Society's National Exhibition, An Post Museum Curator Stephen Ferguson spied fabric postcards on display. Impressed by these creative and beautiful cards with their backsides bearing postmarks, Ferguson set about seeking and requesting permission to display a selection of these postcards in the An Post Museum located inside the General Post Office in Dublin’s City Centre.
Te postcards were on display for a limited time, so I quickly arranged to meet Stephen at the GPO. Much to my surprise and pleasure, I was given a tour and insight into the An Post Museum which houses the exhibition, Letters, Lives & Liberty. Tis treasure trove of history is relatively new and as such, one can find the golden nuggets of Irish pastimes presented incredibly well. Te museum transforms the history sights, sounds and stories into a fascinating resource centre with savvy hands-on technical aids. Te combination of old and new is a delight to experience.
